How I work...
As an Integrative Counsellor I use a range of humanistic approaches including Person-Centred, Gestalt Therapy and Transactional Analysis. This gives me the flexibility to be able to choose those techniques which best suit you.
What works for one person may not work for you and so we will spend some time initially, exploring your needs and what you want to gain from counselling.
Counselling is your opportunity to gain a greater understanding of the issues you face, explore possibilities for change in your life and decide on a course of action, in your own time and in your own way. My role is not to offer advice but to listen to, guide and assist you to find your own way.
How counselling can help you...
Many of us are very good at taking care of our physical health in terms of living more active lives and eating healthily. We are often happy to visit a Doctor with our physical symptoms or consult an Osteopath or Chiropractor with a back problem.
A Counsellor is there to offer help and support for our emotional health and well-being in times of stress, change or difficulty. Exploring your feelings and emotions within the safety of a trusting, confidential and professional relationship can enable you to live your life more fully and make the changes you wish to make.
You may find that one or two sessions are enough to enable you to see your problems more clearly and make some decisions about moving forward. This is often the case if you are struggling to deal with one particular issue or decision in your life. Longer term counselling may be required when your issues are many, more complicated or deep rooted. This is something we will explore during the first session and can revisit at any time.
What you can expect from me...
An initial consultation free of charge in which you can meet me, ask any questions you may have and decide if you want to arrange a further appointment.
I will offer you a safe, confidential space where you can talk through your problems in a way that it is not always possible with family or friends.
I will listen to the way you feel and how this affects you and those around you.
I will accept who you are without judging you or making assumptions.
I will aim to help create a good therapeutic relationship with you so that we can work together towards making the changes that you want to make.
I will understand that it can be difficult to talk through and express the way you feel and work with you towards improving your well-being and achieving your aims.
